Veteran actress Ngozi Ezeonu has joined the growing worry over fake and unsafe products in Nigeria, saying the hunt for profit must not cost human lives.

In a video that has gone viral, she spoke about the health harm from fake drugs and food items and pointed to rising cases of organ failure among young people.

She said she no longer understands what is happening in the country.

According to her, hospitals are full of young people dying from kidney and liver problems because everything around them is fake.

She said people have to look for money and get rich, but not at the cost of lives, and that Nigerians should not be their own enemy.

Ezeonu called on regulators, including NAFDAC, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, to step up monitoring and enforcement to protect the public.

Her warning came days after fellow actress Ruth Kadiri raised a similar alarm.

In a video online, Kadiri urged NAFDAC to step up its crackdown on fake products, saying contaminated food, drinks, medicines and cosmetics now threaten human life.

She said people buy these items every day believing they are safe, but many are poorly made, harmful and fake.

She added that this is not a business problem but a threat to life, and shared how garlic she bought turned green soon after she blended it.
