MINNA – Niger State House of Assembly (NSHA) has called for urgent recruitment of medical doctors, nurses and other health personnel to provide medical services to patients on emergencies arising from flood and other natural disasters especially in Kontagora and surrounding areas.
In the absence of qualified health professionals, the House wants the executive arm to engage the services of retired doctors, nurses and others on contract basis for immediate deployment to Kontagora General hospital as the number of flood victims and other natural occurrences increases in some local government areas.
This resolution was reached after the member representing Kontagora 1 Constituency, Hon. Sani Umar, under Matter of Urgent Public Importance, drew the attention of the House to possible disease outbreaks if nothing was done urgently to dispatch health workers to the area.
The Legislators therefore urged the Executive Arm of government to as a matter of urgency provide doctors to Kontagora general hospital to avert outbreak of diseases that could lead to untimely deaths.
Presenting his Motion at the plenary of the House, Sani Umar told his colleagues that Kontagora with its large population currently lacked basic health facilities especially the General hospital with no single qualified doctor on ground to provide medical care.
Despite not having any doctor on duty, Hon. Sani said the Kontagora General hospital is the only government owned health facility that covers about four local government areas; Rijau, Magama, Mariga, and Kontagora itself.
