The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the 8th Nigeria–European Union (EU) Ministerial Dialogue will hold on Monday, 23 March 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tafawa Balewa House, Abuja.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will lead the Nigerian delegation, while the European Union delegation is expected to be led by Ms. Kaja Kallas, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission. Ms. Kaja Kallas is scheduled to arrive in Abuja on Sunday, 22 March.

According to a statement by the Spokesperson of the
Ministry, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, during her visit, Ms. Kaja Kallas will hold a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, aimed at reviewing Nigeria–EU relations and advancing cooperation across key sectors of mutual interest.

The visiting High Representative is also expected to pay a courtesy call on the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of high-level engagements to further strengthen diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the European Union.

A Joint Press Briefing by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the EU High Representative will take place after the Ministerial meeting, where outcomes of the dialogue and areas of enhanced cooperation will be communicated to the public.

The Eighth Nigeria–EU Ministerial Dialogue will provide an important platform for both parties to deepen engagement in areas including trade and investment, security cooperation, governance, migration, climate action, and sustainable development.

“The dialogue underscores the strong and evolving partnership between Nigeria and the European Union, anchored on shared values of multilateralism, mutual respect, and strategic cooperation.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the European Union and looks forward to a productive and forward-looking engagement.”
