The Federal Government on Wednesday lauded businessman and philanthropist, Sir Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu, for his contribution to education.
The philanthropist donated a state-of-the-art 350-seater Media Resource Centre to the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) in Lagos that marked a partnership between Adebutu and the Federal Government in enhancing educational infrastructure.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Adebutu Media Resource Centre, Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance, highlighted the critical impact of Adebutu’s donation, which he said supports the third pillar of educational infrastructure.
“Adebutu is a notable philanthropist who has once again proven himself as a pillar in our society. His donation not only enhances NIJ’s facilities but also helps the federal government in delivering comprehensive education.
“Access to education is the first pillar, education curriculum is the second pillar, and then infrastructure is the third crucial pillar. This project exemplifies the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to make quality education accessible.
“It is only possible with partners like Sir Adebutu, who step in to bridge gaps in education. Seeing this remarkable transformation from bare land to an impressive facility is a testament to the vision and capability of a successful man,” the Minister stated.
He lauded the kind gesture of Adebutu for creating a resource centre that will be invaluable to students, faculty, and visiting fellows at NIJ.
Sir Adebutu in his remarks, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying the project aligned with the objectives of his foundation, the Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation (KAAF).

He extended heartfelt thanks to the NIJ’s Council, especially Chief Olusegun Osoba, the council’s chairman, and other board members for their roles in bringing the resource centre to life, saying “This unique project will undoubtedly enhance journalism in Nigeria.
“I am proud to be associated with an initiative that resonates with my foundation’s commitment to give back to society without regard for clan, religion, or political affiliations.”
Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the event lauded the gesture of Chief Adebutu Kesignton, saying his philanthropic gestures extended beyond education sector.
“Beyond Lagos, the donor has made great impact in sports sponsorship, table tennis and healthcare sector, among others,” he added.
