ABUJA – The Director General and Chief Executive Officer (DG/CEO) of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, on Tuesday paid a working visit to the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC).
A statement signed by ASP Augustina Okeiyi Kuru, Public Relations Liaison Officer, NPF-NCCC on Wednesday indicated that the visit was aimed at “exploring potential collaboration opportunities to further protect NIMC’s data and infrastructure, combat cybercrime, and enhance national security.
This, according to the statement was also a bid to bolster digital security.
Meanwhile, the Director of NPF-NCCC and Head of INTERPOL Africa Cybercrime Units, Commissioner of Police, CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry in his remark emphasized the importance of collaboration.
He said, “Although NIMC’s protection is strong, we seek to provide an additional layer of security, which is the responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force to protect lives and properties, including our digital information infrastructure and that of the Federal Government and NIMC.”
During the visit, the Director of NPF-NCCC highlighted the Center’s core responsibilities and success stories.
CP Uche however showcased the Center’s state-of-the-art facilities, such as the OSINT Lab, Threat Response Lab, Network Analysis Lab, and Forensics Lab. Certified forensics experts demonstrated the tools and capabilities of the Center, underscoring its expertise in addressing cyber threats in Nigeria and Africa.
Addressing recent concerns about the security of NIMC’s database, the Director of NPF-NCCC reassured that “we swiftly conducted profiling and analysis upon hearing concerns about the security of NIMC’s database. Our forensic analysis confirmed that the database is indeed secure.”
The visit underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement in creating a more secure digital landscape.
According to him, “The NPF-NCCC remains committed to collaboration and information sharing to combat cybercrime and safeguard Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.”
The Director of NPF-NCCC also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the DG of NIMC for her visit and commitment to collaborative efforts in tackling cybercrime and promoting national security.
He urges all Nigerians to report any cybercrime cases and related offenses through the NPF-NCCC’s E-reporting portal, which provides a secure and convenient platform for citizens to report incidents and support the fight against cybercriminals.
The Director also extends his gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for his unwavering passion, resilience, and dedication to creating an enabling environment for the Cyber Hawks to effectively combat cybercriminals in Nigeria.
The IGP’s leadership and support, he said have been instrumental in empowering the NPF-NCCC to tackle the evolving threats of cybercrime and protect the nation’s digital landscape.
