KATSINA – The Katsina State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has apprehended three suspected vandals of streetlights and armoured cables in the state.
DSC Buhari Hamisu, the Command’s spokesperson while parading the suspects in Katsina on Thursday, explained that the suspects were arrested by the Special Anti-vandal patrol team in the state.
He said acting on a tip off, the special Anti-vandal patrol team apprehended Hassan Suleiman 25, of Sabuwar Unguwa Kofar Kaura in Katsina Metropolis and Kamaluddeen Shu’aibu (alias Dankaita) 22, of Goruba road behind old NITEL office also in Katsina Metropolis, while vandalizing streetlights and armoured cables.
During investigation, he said the suspects confessed to committing the crimes, adding that, they were apprehended at an uncompleted building while burning the stolen cables.
DSC Buhari Hamisu however revealed that one Mubarak alias Tulaka and Nura alias Hannun Biri are presently at large.
Further investigations revealed that the suspected syndicate team had vandalized streetlights, armoured cables at the same location and sold to one major buyer of stolen armoured cables identified as Takale who is also at large.
In another development, the special Anti-vandal patrol team also apprehended one Aliyu Yunusa, 16, of Kofar Durbi Area in Katsina Metropolis.

During investigation, the suspect revealed that on Thursday, 15th August, 2024, he went to Hassan Usman road close to the Union Bank and removed the streetlights armoured cables using some tools.
“It was while I was conveying the cable in a tricycle that I was intercepted and apprehended by the civil defense corps personnel”, the suspect revealed.
The Command image maker said various exhibits were recovered from the suspects which include
2 roles of armoured cables, a hack-saw, jack knife, 1no. Iron bender tool and a tricycle with registration no. KZR 048 UD
He said the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution after the completion of the investigations.
