LAGOS โ The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Oyo State Government are strengthening their existing collaboration, while also exploring new areas of partnership.
A statement on Sunday by Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance, NSIB, said that both parties pledged to enhance the existing relationship when Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., the Director-General of the bureau along with his team members, paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State in the state.
The statement hinted that the visit also aimed at boosting transport safety measures and accident prevention strategies within the state.
According to her, Badeh Jr. expressed his appreciation for Makindeโs leadership and commitment to infrastructure development in the state, noting the importance of incorporating robust safety protocols across all sectors, including transportation and other industries that required stringent safety oversight.
The Director-General further briefed Makinde on NSIBโs mission and key accomplishments in recent years, emphasising the bureauโs dedication to improving safety outcomes through investigation of incidents and accidents, transport safety recommendations, as well as proactive engagement with stakeholders.
He said: โWe are here today to express our admiration for your visionary leadership and to explore how we can work together to promote a culture of transport safety in Oyo State.
โNSIB is committed to ensuring that safety remains at the forefront of every development initiative, and we believe that by working with state governments, we can create safer environments across Nigeria.โ
In his response, Makinde, welcomed the team and applauded NSIBโs role in enhancing transport safety in Nigeria.
He also expressed his willingness to explore areas where the state could benefit from the bureauโs expertise, particularly in sectors involving transportation and public safety.
He insisted that NSIBโs work was critical in ensuring that everyone learnt from past accidents and prevent future occurrences.
โI am pleased to see your proactive approach in reaching out to stakeholders at all levels,โ the governor added.
The governor further highlighted his administrationโs commitment to infrastructural development and improving safety standards in the state.
He further emphasised the importance of cooperation between federal agencies and State governments in achieving lasting progress in safety initiatives.
The discussion provided an opportunity for the NSIB team and Makinde to deliberate on areas of mutual interest, including the need for continuous education and training on safety protocols, as well as the importance of public awareness campaigns to instill a culture of safety among citizens.
