Lagos State University (LASU) has marked another milestone in its academic journey having secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the establishment of four new full-time undergraduate programmes within its Faculty of Computing and Information Technology.

According to a press release signed by Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, a
Deputy Registrar and the Coordinator,
Centre for Information and Public Relations, LASU on
Tuesday, 18th November 2025, the development will further strengthen the varsity’s position as a leader in technology-driven education.

The release states that the approval, conveyed in a letter dated 3rd November 2025 and signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Mr Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NUC, followed a recent rigorous resource verification visit to the LASU by panels of experts tasked with assessing the availability of human and material resources for the proposed programmes.

The following four programmes have, thereafter, been approved, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session:

  • B.Sc. Cyber Security
  • B.Sc. Software Engineering
  • B.Sc. Information and Communication Technology
  • B.Sc. Data Science

“This development also emphasises LASU’s commitment to providing cutting-edge education aligned with global technological advancements. However, it should be noted that the approval currently applies only to full-time study modes.

“By expanding its academic offerings, Lagos State University reaffirms its dedication to nurturing expertise in computing disciplines and equipping graduates with the skills required to excel in Nigeria’s digital economy and beyond.”; the release enthused.
