Three unions at the local government level have commended the Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, for not only approving but implementing the new minimum wage of N75,000 for state and LG workers.
The unions include the National Union of Local Government Employees, the National Union of Teachers and the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by the Kebbi State Chairman of NULGE, Alhaji Faruk Abubakar-Sadiq, and made available to our correspondent on Saturday, he appreciated Idris for what he described as magnanimity in approving and implementing the new minimum wage for all staff in the State Civil Service and Local Government Service.
Abubakar-Sadiq, who spoke on behalf of the three unions, observed that the gesture demonstrated the governor’s desire to give the workers in the state a sense of belonging.
“On behalf of the entire workers, these unions wish to extend their appreciation to His Excellency for not only approving the new minimum wage but also immediately implanting it.
“There is no doubt, this gesture has demonstrated your unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of workers across the state”, he said.
Speaking on members of the unions whose names were omitted or underpaid, the chairman advised such workers to formally lodge their complaints with the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, through their respective Directors of Finance and Supply.
“Any staff with complaints regarding omission or underpayment should lodge his/her complaints through their respective Directors of Finance and Supply.
“These complaints will be forwarded to the ministry for necessary action”, the chairman assured.
