ABUJA – The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has cautioned government representatives against hunting and punishing nurses who participated in its recent industrial action across the country.
Recall that Nurses angered by a number of industrial related welfare issues, embarked on a nationwide strike, throwing the sector under serious crisis.
The development prompted an intensive dialogue by the relevant stakeholders, after it was tabled by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate at the Federal Executive Council meeting on Thursday, which was presided over by the President, Bola Tinubu.
Recall that NANNM recently announced the suspension of the nationwide strike at the weekend.
In a three-page resolution after a series of meetings with relevant stakeholders, the NANNM leadership warned,” we are against punishing members that participated in the strike which began on July 29″.
The leadership announced the setting up of a committee to monitor the implementation of the agreements reached at the meetings.
The resolution was signed by the NANNM President, Comrade Haruna Mamman; the Association’s General Secretary, Comrade T. A Shettima; Director of Human Resources in the Federal Ministry of Health, Dafeta T. Tetshoma; Director of Trade Union Services and Industrial Relationship in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Falonipe Amos O.
