The Ologba of Ogba Kingdom, HRM Oba Latif Oladimeji Egbeyemi, Madarikan I, has marked the grand finale of his first coronation anniversary with the installation of new chiefs, awards of excellence, and a series of community-focused programmes.
Speaking at the colourful ceremony held at his palace, Oba Egbeyemi expressed gratitude to God and his Council of Chiefs for their unwavering support since his ascension to the throne. He described the anniversary as a milestone that not only celebrated his reign but also provided opportunities to demonstrate his vision for the Ogba community.
“Today is so significant, because we shall install new Chiefs and thereby expand the council. It is my sincere belief that the entire people of Ogba kingdom are in for a new and better deal, as we are having more people to join hands in the service of our ancestral community,” the monarch said.
The king highlighted several community programmes held in the palace square during the week-long celebrations, which included a medical outreach by the local government Primary Health Centre, free Ilera Eko health insurance enrolment by the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), and documentation services provided by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASSRA).
“These services did not just happen randomly. Everything happened because I sought them out. As a royal father, my focus and responsibility are now far beyond me and my family alone. My focus is now on every Dick and Harry from Ogba home and abroad, and I assume responsibility for all,” Oba Egbeyemi declared.
As part of the event, the monarch also instituted an “Award of Excellence and Recognition” to honor individuals and organisations for outstanding contributions to society. Among the honorees were Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment; his Permanent Secretary, ESV Wasiu Adebayo Olayinka, Guinness Nigeria Plc for its commitment to social welfare and sustainable development; and Daily Independent Newspaper for impactful and accurate reporting with a focus on the Ogba community.
“When individuals and organisations do very well, we should appreciate them, recognise them, and honor them. It should not only be when we see a fault that we go on social media to ‘Soro Soke’ but also when people and organisations do well,” the monarch emphasised.
Oba Egbeyemi further commended his subjects, both home and abroad, for their loyalty and cooperation, assuring them of his continued dedication to peace, cultural preservation, and community development.
“I pray that our kingdom continues to grow in prosperity and harmony. May our collective efforts bring even greater achievements in the years ahead,” he concluded.
The event attracted dignitaries, traditional leaders, government officials, and indigenes of Ogba Kingdom, who joined in celebrating the monarch’s reign and the installation of the new chiefs.
