Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed displeasure over the prolonged neglect of Ogun West Senatorial District by previous administrations, despite the zoneโs strategic contributions to the stateโs economy.
Speaking on Sunday at the grand finale of the 2024 Oronna Day Celebration held in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area, Abiodun noted that Ogun West, which serves as the stateโs food basket and largest non-oil revenue earner, had been overlooked in terms of development projects.
He said, โWhen I assumed office, I realised that, for some reasons, most of my predecessors did not give this zone the attention it deserves.
โKabiyesi told me that in the past, all they did here was ground-breaking ceremonies without commissioning projects. I assured him that this narrative would change, and today, I am proud to say we have delivered on that promise.โ
The governor highlighted his administrationโs achievements in the region, including the reconstruction of the Ilaro-Owode Road, which connects Yewa South to other local governments, drastically reducing travel time from over two hours to just a few minutes.
He added, โWe have commissioned at least one road in every local government in this zone, with some having even more.
โHe also emphasized the strategic importance of Ogun West, home to the Agbara Industrial Estate with over 500 industries, the largest limestone deposits, and the nationโs biggest cement factory.
The governor revealed that one lane of the Atan-Lusada-Agbara dual carriageway had been completed, with work ongoing to finish the second lane.
Abiodun praised the indigenes of Ogun West for their commitment to the development of the zone, particularly acknowledging the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola for their efforts in improving the areaโs infrastructure and welfare.
He also called on residents to collaborate with the government in driving development, stressing that collective efforts were needed to achieve sustainable progress.
Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jubril, commended the state government for fostering community development. He noted that the Oronna Day celebration serves as both a cultural preservation tool and a driver of socio-economic growth.
In a message delivered by Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, described the event as a celebration of heritage that fosters development and unity among the people.
In his remarks, Oba Olugbenle appreciated Abiodun for fulfilling his promise to extend developmental projects to Yewaland.
He urged the governor to prioritize the commissioning of a housing estate in Ilaro to further improve the living standards of residents.
