A crash that happened on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge this morning has resulted in the death of one person.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in a statement issued by Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, and Mr. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, “The fatal accident involving a Mini Truck (MUS 489 XS) and a Toyota Camry (KRD 470 JD) was caused by excessive speeding during a heavy downpour this morning.”
The statement confirmed that three more people were rescued at the scene of the accident.
After the incident, which happened close to the Unilag coastline, LASTMA agents moved quickly to the Iyana-Oworonshoki neighborhood of Lagos.
The Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, is still broken according to Giwa, despite the government’s continuous campaign to inform drivers of speed limits.
He advised private vehicle owners and commercial bus drivers to refrain from going over speed restrictions on the Third Mainland Bridge and other state highways.
Giwa stated that in order to guarantee efficient traffic flow on the bridge, the accident vehicles were cleared by LASTMA, and the deceased was expeditiously evacuated by representatives of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).
He conveyed his sympathies to the departed individual’s family and emphasized the importance of traffic safety.
