The Edo State Police Command has disclosed details of the arrest procedure for Osakpolor Edebor, the 32-year-old infamous cult leader.
Said to be on the police “wanted list,” the suspect is a member of a group of gunmen who pose as members of a state-wide covert cult. In Auchi, Etsako West, the State’s local government region, he was ultimately taken into custody.
One Cyril was reportedly attacked by Edebor in Benin City’s Uwelu Market neighborhood. The victim was reportedly decapitated, but he managed to flee Benin and seek refuge in Auchi. It was learned that Edebor allegedly joined a group of online scammers at a “yahoo yahoo academy” while he was in Auchi.
Edebor was reportedly arrested by authorities after they stormed the academy after the gang’s fraudulent activities in Auchi.
For additional inquiry, he was then moved to the State Criminal inquiry Department (SCID), located at the Command’s headquarters in Benin.
The police reportedly identified the man as Cyril’s alleged killer at Uwelu after conducting a more thorough investigation. Edebor, who admitted to the crime, claimed that he participated in Cyril’s demise in order to get revenge for the passing of his member, Lagbaja.
“I was arrested in Auchi where I was doing yahoo yahoo after a disagreement over the sharing of the proceeds.
“Someone withheld our ₦6 million share after he had taken his own share of the proceeds.
“So, I and others violently stormed his house in a bid to recover the money. People then called the police and we were arrested.
“It was when we got to the police station that information filtered out that I was in custody. That was how the cult matter was added.”
It should be remembered that numerous people have been killed in the State’s continuing, violent conflicts between competing fraternity groups.
Umoru Ozigi, the State Commissioner of Police, stated that further gang members who are now at large have been discovered. “Those at large will soon be arrested,” Ozigi said.
He gave locals credit for providing information that has reduced the threat of cultism in the state.
