Six people have been taken into custody by Bauchi State Police Command officers in connection with separate cases of vandalism and gender-based assault.

The Command’s efforts to combat criminal activity in the North-Eastern State have culminated in this arrest.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, attested to this. According to him, on December 25, 2024, police officers on patrol arrested Mustapha Sa’idu, 22, and Hamza Mohammed, 20, both of Bauchi, for allegedly stealing cement and car tires.

“The suspects confessed to trespassing and stealing the items, valued at N249,000,” he said.

Subsequent research showed that on January 14, 2025, the same people and Aliyu Musa damaged electrical equipment owned by the Jos Electricity Power Company (JED).

The spokesman for the Command claimed that the suspects had made plans to sell Al-Ameen Ibrahim the stolen equipment.

Among the items found on the suspects were a motorcycle, some electric aluminum conductors, and a hacksaw.

“Investigation is ongoing, after which the suspects will be charged to court for the established offence in collaboration with Jos Electric Distribution Company, Bauchi Branch, for prosecution,” the statement read.

In a separate incident, Shehu Isah, 45, was arrested on January 25, 2025, for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in Kirfi.

The suspect was accused of luring the victim into his room and forcefully having a carnal knowledge of her.

“On January 16, 2025, police in Ningi apprehended Shafi’u Sule in connection with the disappearance of a ten-year-old girl. The girl was found with Sule, who allegedly threatened her life.

“Investigation into the case revealed that the suspect threatened to cut off the victim’s tongue and burn her alive if she dared to shout for help,” Wakil stated.

He mentioned that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has been tasked with conducting additional research on the matter. Wakil also reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to combating crime and guaranteeing locals’ safety.
