The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the appointments of 18 new permanent secretaries across ministries in the state.
Among those appointed were an indigene of Osun State, Adebayo Ojeyinka and Joachin Achor from Abia State.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued by the governorโs press secretary, Christian Aburime, on Friday, adding that the appointments were based on merit.
Aburime stated that the appointments followed a โmeticulous and transparentโ process that included a computer-based exam, a search process and one-on-one interaction with the governor.
The statement read, โThis personalised interaction allowed for a deeper understanding of the candidatesโ aspirations, vision, and alignment with the governmentโs objectives, ensuring a well-rounded evaluation.
โIt is imperative to note that historically, the selection of permanent secretaries solely rested with the prerogative of Mr Governor. However, this time, a deliberate shift towards a transparent search process was initiated.
โThis change aimed to uphold principles of fairness, equal opportunity, and the identification of the most qualified candidates.
โEven younger, very productive civil servants were appointed based on their exceptional abilities.
โThis groundbreaking move by Soludo highlights his commitment to breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity in Anambra State.
โThe appointments of non-indigenes and individuals from other states demonstrate a willingness to tap into talent from all corners of the country, rather than limiting opportunities to only those who hail from Anambra.โ
It added that the appointment of Ojeyinka from Osun State is particularly noteworthy as it breaks the traditional practice of reserving top civil service positions for indigenes only.
โThis move sends a strong message that Anambra is open to all, irrespective of their state of origin,โ it added.
According to the list, all other 16 appointees are fromย Anambraย State.
