The Federal Government has revoked restrictions on NYSC postings, paving the way for corps members to serve in banks and the oil & gas sector. This landmark decision was communicated in a memo dated November 18, 2024, from the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, to the NYSC Director General. It takes effect with the 2024 Batch ‘C Orientation Course.
The change aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to tackle youth unemployment and enhance synergy across government agencies. Previously, postings were limited to Education, Agriculture, Health, and Infrastructure. While this policy, introduced by former Minister Bolaji Abdullahi, aimed to prevent exploitation of corps labour, it inadvertently stifled specialised training opportunities.
This move promises to bridge the skills gap, preparing graduates for a competitive job market.
