ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has for­warded the names of members of the inaugural Governing Board of the North West Devel­opment Commission (NWDC) to the Senate for confirmation.

This development was made public in a statement released on Saturday, September 28, 2024, by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on In­formation and Strategy.

The statement, titled ‘Presi­dent Tinubu Appoints the Gov­erning Board of the North West Development Commission,’ highlighted the importance of the newly created commission in addressing the specific devel­opmental needs of the region.

The creation of the North West Development Commission was formalised on July 24, 2024, when Tinubu signed the NWDC Bill into law.

“The commission is expect­ed to spearhead socio-economic development initiatives across the North West states, aiming to reduce poverty, improve infra­structure, and foster sustainable growth.

“The nominated board mem­bers are expected to contribute their wealth of experience and expertise to the commission’s mandate of developing the North-West region.

“The NWDC will focus on catalysing significant growth, economic empowerment, and social development of the re­gion,” Onanuga explained.

NWDC Governing Board nominees are Chairman: Amb. Haruna Ginsau (Jigawa), MD/ CEO; Professor Abdullahi She­hu Ma’aji (Kano).

Others are Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe (Sokoto); Hon. Aminu Suleiman (Kebbi); Sen. Tijani Yahaya Kaura (Zamfara); Hon. Abdulkadir S. Usman (Kadu­na); Hon. Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil (Kano); Shamsu Sule (Katsina) and Nasidi Ali (Jiga­wa).
