The 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference, a landmark event by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), will feature dignitaries from far and wide including President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi among others.

The conference, which is slated for  September 10-11, 2024, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, is expected to have in attendance over 12,000 participants, both in-person and virtually, making it the largest assembly of banking and finance professionals in Africa.

With the theme, “Accelerated Economic Growth and Development: The State of Play and the Way Forward,” the conference aims to address the pressing issues within Nigeria’s and Africa’s economic landscapes. The discussions will focus on unlocking possibilities through artificial intelligence, diversifying the export base, and exploring the pivotal role of banking in economic development.

The President and Chairman of Council of the CIBN, Prof. Pius Deji Olanrewaju, while briefing the media on the conference said, “We are honoured to have distinguished guests, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other key leaders from across Africa, in attendance.

“The sessions will be intellectually engaging, addressing critical challenges within Nigeria’s business and financial sectors while integrating the voices of the Next Generation while the Goodwill Message will be delivered by Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, and other top government functionaries.

“The Annual Banking and Finance Conference is the flagship programme of The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) hosted annually to provide a platform for all stakeholders in the banking and finance industry including policymakers, regulators, operators, the academic community, clients, bank customers and players in the financial services ecosystem to share experiences and exchange ideas on contemporary issues affecting the sector and the economy.

 “The topic focuses on the socioeconomic development of the nation, without which all of us would not be able to survive as a nation. So as a body, we would continue to play a pivotal role.”

The event will include three business sessions featuring experts and policymakers who will deliberate on strategies for sustainable economic growth. In addition to high-profile speakers, the conference will spotlight the voices of the next generation, including the youngest senator in Nigeria, Asuquo Ekpenyong, the youngest vice chancellor, Aisha Maikudi, and the youngest finance commissioner in Nigeria.

Speaking at the briefing, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of United Bank for Africa who is  the Chairman of the Consultative Committee for the conference, Oliver Alauaba,  emphasised the significance of this gathering.

“This event is the largest gathering of Banking and Finance Professionals in Africa, and the discussions will focus on Nigeria’s and Africa’s economic landscape, examining key growth drivers and strategies for sustainable development,” he said.

Alauaba also confirmed the attendance of key leaders from across Africa, noting that the Vice President of Liberia will represent the country at the conference. “We are honored to have distinguished guests, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other key leaders from across Africa, in attendance.

 “The Chief Host of the conference is Prof. Pius Deji Olanrewaju, President and Chairman of the Council at CIBN”.

 He reiterated that as a flagship program of the CIBN, the Annual Banking and Finance Conference provides a critical platform for stakeholders in the banking and finance industry, including policymakers, regulators, operators, and clients, to share experiences and exchange ideas on contemporary issues affecting the sector and the broader economy.
