ABUJA – Several educational institutions in the United Kingdom (UK) are set to host the esteemed UK Boarding Schools Week in Abuja and Lagos this week.
The event is scheduled to take place from January 16 to January 19.
This initiative comes at a time when the United Kingdom has witnessed a substantial decrease of 42 percent, equating to nearly 400,000, in visa applications for work and study between April and December 2024 in comparison to the corresponding period in 2023.
As per the preliminary data released by the UK Home Office, the total number of applications has plummeted from 942,500 in 2023 to 547,000 in 2024, signifying a reduction of 395,100.
The decline has been particularly pronounced among international students and foreign care providers, who have been subjected to new regulations designed to restrict unlawful migration.
Nonetheless, as stated by the organizers, Mark Brooks Education, in collaboration with the UK’s Department for Business and Trade, the event will commemorate 17 years of facilitating connections between Nigerian families and some of the most distinguished educational opportunities in the UK, both independent and state-funded.
“Families are encouraged to explore institutions that boast exceptional academic achievements, boarding amenities, pastoral support, and a demonstrated dedication to accommodating Nigerian students.
The occasion will also acknowledge the remarkable achievements of Nigerian students in prestigious UK institutions,” the statement highlights.
The participating UK-based schools encompass Aldro Preparatory School; Bromsgrove School; Cardiff Sixth Form College; Concord College; Glenalmond College; Lancing College; Malvern St James Girls’ School; and Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate.
