Venice of Africa | I couldn’t visit Lagos without making a stop at the well-known Makoko Village. What is considered a slum today began as a humble fishing village over a century ago and has now grown to house over 200,000 residents. I was deeply inspired by the way this community embraces the simplicity of living on the water, which they rely on for all their daily needs. Despite facing pressure from the government to leave, the villagers are determined to stay and preserve their way of life. In a powerful shift to protect their culture and future, they’ve taken the initiative to build schools within the village, ensuring that the next generation has access to education while staying rooted in their community. It’s a testament to their resilience and commitment to their heritage. ????
