The Vice Chancellor of Peaceland University, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Professor Leonard Chidi Ilechukwu, has said that in the three years of the university’s existence, it has consistently worked within its mandate, including its avowed mission and vision of Integral Human Development.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Ilechukwu said that the university has continued to focus on the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, and community service.
Through the five faculties and over 37 departments, he said, Peaceland University has continued to maintain consistency in complementing governments’ efforts in preparing the youths for a better tomorrow.
Delivering his address at the third matriculation ceremony of the university over the weekend, the Vice Chancellor said that Peaceland University is poised to expose its students to world-class experience through its intercontinental connectivity and exchange programmes.
According to him, the University believes in hard work and reward therefrom. “There is intolerance to examination misconduct and all other unwholesome attitudes. Every student is allowed to prove his/her mettle and at the end, be judged in character and in learning”, he added.
While welcoming parents and guardians to the ceremony and thanking God, he also appreciated the love and affection the saintly Swiss mother, Founder and Funder, Mama Pia, through whose seed, vision, and sacrifice, he said, made the gathering possible.
The V-C told the new students that Peaceland University is a house of formation, and urged them to take pride in the distinguished triumphs in academic, spiritual, moral, cultural, and social exploits of the university.
“Do not let the privileges you enjoy here go to waste; make good use of every opportunity. I therefore enjoin you to work hard and be focused, as we on our part are bent to make your stay in this university very eventful and rewarding. Be assured that your choice of Peaceland University will not be regretted. We are determined to launch you into the limelight of stardom. The spirit of Mama Pia shall always guide and make a way for you.
“We guarantee your peace of mind and assure your actualization of your dreams and goals. I can already see in you, young, talented boys and girls destined for greatness and people who will make great impacts in the global world,” he assured.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Ilechukwu also counselled that the beginning of anything is not easy, but there is always success at the end, and that matriculation marked the beginning of a challenging but fulfilling journey in their academic growth and prosperity.
He said the university authorities have provided a serene environment, smart classrooms, library, e-library, and databases, furnished laboratories and studios, brilliant and experienced faculty staff to assist students to get to the finish line, such that upon graduation, they will be fit for purpose, competitive, and ready for industry and the job market.
Bringing the students to the university is the best their parents and guardians have done to help them not only to forecast their future but to create it. “Not everyone of your mates got this opportunity. Some of your parents are striving to keep you here; refuse to disappoint them”, he added.
He thanked the parents/guardians for demonstrating confidence in the university by partnering with it to bring to bear the great potential in their children and assured them they will not be disappointed.
