President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday congratulated the first National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Bisi Akande, on his 86th birthday.
Describing Akande as โa truly progressive and committed Awoist,โ Tinubu lauded his contributions to Nigeriaโs democracy, nation-building, and development.
According to the President, Akandeโs life epitomises selfless service, which has been his guiding principle throughout his political career.

โBaba Akande has consistently demonstrated integrity, wisdom, and a deep commitment to the progressive ideals of our democracy.
โHis selfless service to our nation, from his time as Secretary to the Government of Old Oyo State and later as Deputy Governor, to his tenure as Governor of Osun State and his pioneering role in the APC, is truly commendable,โ Tinubu stated.
The President highlighted Akandeโs pivotal role in the APCโs victory in the 2015 elections, noting that his efforts were instrumental in laying the foundation for the partyโs success.
โChief Akandeโs leadership and vision were crucial in forming a solid and united APC, leading to a historic electoral victory. His contributions have left an indelible mark on Nigeriaโs political landscape,โ Tinubu remarked.
Reflecting on their shared experiences, Tinubu recalled their collaboration in the pro-democracy group, NADECO, during the struggle to restore democracy in Nigeria.
โWe have walked through history together, and I am grateful for Baba Akandeโs unwavering support, wise counsel, and steadfast partnership in establishing progressive governance in our country,โ he said.
The President described Akandeโs 86th birthday as a moment to celebrate his invaluable contributions and to honor his legacy of inspiring younger generations.
