The Nigeria Customs Service has said youth involvement is crucial in tackling climate change, saying addressing the problems is a global challenge that requires collective action.
Pledging commitment to environmental sustainability, it expressed dedication to contributing to the nationโs climate change mitigation strategies.
Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu of the Federal Operations Unit Zone โBโ, Kaduna presented a paper on the NCSโs role in climate change mitigation at a three-day retreat held at the National Teachers Institute Kaduna, a statement on Friday by Customs Public Relations Officer, Federal Operations Unit, Zone B, Kaduna, Isah Sulaiman, said.
The event, themed โYouth Involvement in Tackling Climate Change in Our Community,โ was jointly organised by the Red Cross Kaduna North Division and the Nigeria Customs Serviceย Federal operations Unit Zone B Kaduna from 6 to 9 October 2024, as part of the unitโs Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative.
โClimate change is a global challenge that requires collective action. As a signatory to several Multilateral Environmental Agreements, the NCS is committed to supporting Nigeriaโs climate change mitigation strategies,.
โThe retreat highlighted the NCS commitment to environmental sustainability, emphasising collaborative efforts, renewable energy initiatives, sustainable trade practices, and combating wildlife trafficking.
โWe must work together to address the challenges posed by climate change. The NCS is dedicated to contributing to Nigeriaโs climate change mitigation efforts,โ he stressed.
Shuaibu added, โClimate change is a pressing issue that requires urgent attention. We must take concrete actions to reduce our carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices.
โThe retreat provided a platform for discussing innovative approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation, including sustainable agricultural practices, renewable energy solutions, and eco-friendly policies.
โYouth involvement is crucial in tackling climate change. We must educate and empower young people to become climate champions.โ
The three-day retreat concluded with organisers and participants planting trees, demonstrating their commitment to environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation.
