Delta police foil armed robbery operations, arrest two

Delta State Police Command has reportedly thwarted a robbery operation in Ogwashi-Ukwu, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, arresting two suspects and recovering a cache of weapons and stolen valuables.

 

The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident on Sunday in Asaba, the state capital.

 

Edafe said that at about 4:30 a.m., a distress call alerted the Ogwashi-Ukwu Police Station to ongoing armed robbery activities along Chelsea Street, and swiftly the police acted on the information through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Okoyomon Israel, who mobilised the Anti-Crime Squad in collaboration with local vigilante groups to intercept the suspects.

 

According to him, the suspects, on arrival, attempted to flee the scene but were overpowered and arrested, noting that the two apprehended suspects were identified as Thywill Selvin, a 22-year-old resident of Poly Road, Ogwashi-Ukwu, and Guntim Bako, 32, from Kwale Junction.

 

A significant cache of weapons and stolen items were recovered from the scene, including one pump-action rifle with one live cartridge, one Beretta pistol with six live rounds, three live assault rifle ammunition, two motorcycles (Daylong, REG NO: SAP 369 VK, and Qlink, REG NO: URM 750 QV).

 

Others are 25 mobile phones, four laptops and one tablet phone, a PlayStation 4 game console, a home theatre set, two Zealot music players, and five bags containing clothes.

 

Bright Edafe informed that “several victims have since come forward to positively identify their stolen properties.”

 

Reacting to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, praised the swift and coordinated response of the police and vigilante teams. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to securing lives and property across Delta State.

 

“This success underscores the importance of timely information from the public. We are committed to sustaining intelligence-led operations to flush out criminal elements and keep our communities safe,” the Commissioner said.

 

He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police authority, saying that early reporting remains a critical tool in preventing crime.
