LAGOS – Allied Air Cargo aircraft has skidded off the runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
The aircraft with the registration number: 5N-JRT skidded off the runway at 10:05a.m on Wednesday, a statement by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), said.
According to the statement, there were five souls onboard the cargo plane as at the time of the incident.
She stated that the souls onboard were evacuated and taken to the FAAN clinic for further checks.
The statement said: “The airport emergency response team is on the scene along with accident investigators. The runway is being cleared and is expected to reopen for operations as soon as possible.
“We would like to thank the aviation community and the general public for their understanding and patience.”
The statement also appealed to the public to refrain from unwarranted speculations on the incident until the preliminary report by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is made public.
