The Bishop of the Ijesa North Diocese of the Anglican Communion in Osun State, Rt. Revd. Isaac Oluyamo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in steering the affairs of the country despite prevailing economic and governance challenges.

The cleric, however, called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity, warning that persistent killings, kidnappings and banditry continue to threaten national stability and economic growth.

Oluyamo spoke during the opening session of the third session of the fifth Synod of the Diocese, held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Esa-Oke.

His remarks were contained in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday.

He said, “I commend the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in steering the affairs of the country amidst prevailing challenges.

“I encourage Nigerian youths to explore opportunities in mechanised agriculture and modern animal husbandry as viable pathways to self-reliance, food security, and national development. Agriculture remains one of the most promising sectors for sustainable economic growth and employment generation.”

The bishop also congratulated the government and people of Ekiti State on the successful conduct of the recent governorship election while expressing hope for peaceful and credible elections in Osun State and the 2027 general elections.

He said, “We also congratulate the government and people of Ekiti State on the successful conduct of their gubernatorial election, and we offer prayers for peaceful, credible, and transparent elections in Osun State, as well as in the forthcoming 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.”

Oluyamo urged Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process by voting according to their conscience and convictions, while calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission to continue upholding fairness, transparency and impartiality in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.

Addressing the nation’s security challenges, the bishop condemned the persistent incidents of kidnapping, banditry and other forms of criminality, urging governments at all levels to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property.

He also encouraged Nigerians to remain steadfast in faith, diligent in service and hopeful for a better future, expressing confidence that responsible leadership, active citizenship and divine intervention would enable the country to overcome its current challenges.

The cleric noted that despite the priority the President has placed on issues affecting Nigerians, killings across parts of the country continue at an alarming rate, while many businesses are struggling under the weight of the harsh economic environment.

Oluyamo called for more decisive action to end criminality across the country and offered prayers for President Tinubu and members of the Federal Executive Council, asking God to grant them wisdom in addressing the nation’s challenges.
