Sweden is distributing over five million leaflets to citizens with guidance on preparing for conflict, reflecting growing concerns over Russia’s nuclear policies and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently expanded conditions for nuclear weapon use, including strikes on non-nuclear states allied with nuclear powers. This comes as the war marks its 1,000th day and follows U.S. approval of ATACMS missiles for Ukraine, enabling deeper strikes into Russian territory.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov warned that support for Kyiv from nuclear-armed allies would be seen as a collective attack. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg condemned Russia’s nuclear rhetoric as “reckless” and reaffirmed support for Ukraine.
Ukraine has reportedly used ATACMS missiles for the first time, striking a Russian border region and escalating the conflict.
